What I learned from making takemewithyou
This project is actually coming to a close. I wonder what has happened to the remaining 60 or so cameras that we never got back. Hm.
Event organizer extraordinaire Shannon Downey (really, she’s incredible.) asked all the artists to put together a “what we’ve learned” writeup for her. I just decided to write a blog because it’s a lot more fun this way.
Here’s...

I flew into Chicago this weekend and spent most of Saturday finishing the installation and hanging about 300 more photographs. By the time I was finished with the exhausting and repetitive exercise, I stood back, looked up, and was really proud. I can’t believe I spent the summer hiding cameras for strangers to find. I can’t believe the strangers actually mailed them back. And I...
The Last 6 Cameras
When I first started this project, I said I would be happy if I got 20 cameras back. At this point, I’ve received a total of 33 cameras. I’m very grateful that so many of the people who found the cameras actually decided to participate in the project! Thank you :)
Now let’s take a look at the last 6 rolls…
Camera #11. See the full roll here.

10 more cameras and stories to look at!
I’m so excited to share 10 more cameras with you! It is unbelievably fun to receive these images and see the stories unfold on each roll.
If you love this project, please vote for us! We’ve worked really hard on it, and would love to win $5,500. All it takes is a few seconds and an email address.
Now onto the cameras!
Camera 98: This image is absolutely amazing. I love how quirky...

11 more takemewithyou stories to look at! (nsfw)
We just got a big batch of cameras developed and I uploaded 11 rolls to the site. Here’s one image from each roll, click on the link beneath it to see the full story from each camera. We’ve put a ton of time and energy into the project, so please vote for us and help us win $5,500. Thanks!
A fun day out with a really great group of Wicker Park folks. How do I know they’re...
The photos so far...
With the help of Ritz Camera (our sponsor!), we’ve developed 6 rolls of film. I just received another 8 cameras today so I hope to get those developed soon! Anyway, here are my favorite images from the first six cameras…
Camera #3 — The very first roll that came home. This photograph cracks me up — the (adorable) dog’s like, “Why are you taking photos of...
The cameras are coming home!
My roommate checked the mail today and we had 6 cameras come home! That’s AMAZING. That’s a total of 8 cameras in the last 3 days! I can’t wait to see what’s on them — I’ll stop by Ritz Camera (our lovely sponsors) tomorrow morning to develop the images. There are 99 cameras out in Wicker Park Bucktown right now, and 14 of them are back. I wonder what the...

Anonymous asked: When do the cameras need to be returned? I'd like to tell a story, but it doesn't happen until Aug. @312GoldenGloves

“I was super-duper superhero excited to find your camera today on Damen Ave, right outside Psychobaby, one of my favorite stores! I love taking pictures with Mommy’s camera, but this one is kinda strange because I have to crank it and it doesn’t even show me the picture right away!
We just got back from practicing my skateboarding by...

WE GOT OUR FIRST CAMERA BACK
I repeat: We got our first camera back! After two weeks of distributing cameras, I was starting to think that this project was never going to happen. Then I got home, saw the envelope, and freaked out.
At the very least, we’ll have one roll of images to display! Tomorrow I will head to Ritz Camera, our sponsor, to print the images.
It’s so odd to me — this is my camera, my...

It takes an enormous amount of work and coordination to get this crazy project to take off. Please take a second to vote, and help us win the grand prize. :)
Handing out cameras
5 cameras were left at City Soles today. They were incredibly friendly and excited to see the cameras go out.
I also left another 20 cameras with various stores to put out on their counter on various days throughout the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned and keep your eyes peeled as you explore the neighborhood. Following our clues on Twitter won’t hurt, either.
Clue alert! Tomorrow’s...
Getting more cameras ready!
Currently, about a dozen cameras are gone.
30 more are being distributed to stores tomorrow — although the dates they will be available to the public will be staggered over the next two weeks. Follow along on Twitter so you know where to find them!
It takes a bit of time to put together the camera kits, and you have to do it 100 times over. I wish that I could say that I staged this...
Launch Party!
(Above) Me at the vacant store giving a pitch to a press tour, yay! Big thankyou to my good friend @vaughnchicago for snapping pics.
It was so inspiring to see the other installations at the launch event. The storefronts that made the biggest impression on me were the ones that had a strong physical presence, the ones that really transformed a space. Almost all of my work is in the digital...
The first cameras are gone!
The first set of clues went out on our Twitter feed on Monday. I went back Tuesday to check on the cameras that were left at Pitaya. They’re gone! I hope that the people who discovered them will participate and mail the cameras back.
I am super excited.
It’s been a blast working with stores, although, a lot of work. Fortunately, most stores have been wonderful, and extremely...
Preparing for load-in
Today I went to drop off 9 cameras to various Wicker Park stores. It’s been pretty fantastic, working with the stores — although a bit of a logistical nightmare. It doesn’t help that I don’t actually live in Wicker Park, which means the hour-long trek into the neighborhood a few times a week is a bit taxing. But at least I’m getting to know it pretty well :)
Jared...
Post office fail, camera win
The USPS officially told me today that they cannot mail disposable cameras without packaging around it. We had planned on putting an address and postage on each camera and having people mail it back to us as is. We’ll now be including envelopes and stamps on the takemwithyou camera kits we are leaving around the neighborhood. A much less elegant solution, but at least we’ll definitely...
Making the Cameras
The cameras arrived! We spent the afternoon putting instructions and labels on them. Keep an eye out for them in Wicker Park Bucktown this July — we can’t wait. Follow us on Twitter for clues: @takemewithu312
